long walks in the afternoon

Here in Seattle the winter cold has been suspended for the past couple of weeks. We've regularly had temps in the 50s and we went a good week without seeing rain. Garrison and I have been taking advantage of the good weather to put some miles on the bob stroller. We like to walk to the PCC or the grocery or the junction. In the course of our two mile walks G usually falls asleep. Lately we've been waiting until Amos is off work so he could join us. This week we had a few rainy days, so we used the rain fly on the stroller. G was toasty warm.

On our way home from our trip to the grocery store on Tuesday Amos, G and I saw this rainbow.

And, happy birthday to Aunt Jenn!

SPUD.

Last weekend we took lots of walks and we treated ourselves to a dinner out at Spud on Alki (if you don't know Spud, ask my dad. He's their biggest fan!) We sat upstairs by the windows, so G could see out. He sat on daddy's lap and had fries. (I love his mathy sweatshirt).

As we were getting ready to go another boy came upstairs. It turns out he and G are just 3 days apart. His name is Miles Danger. Amos and I thought that was the greatest name ever. For you simpsons fans out there, it's like Max Power, is it not!? Miles Danger was infinitely more fashionable than G whose approach to style is a little more about avoiding socks, not matching and is very pro-zipper. But G and MD hit it off right away (of course G wanted to touch him).

happy birthday, daddy!

G, MD and I hope your birthday is great. I'm sure, since you'll be celebrating with G, it will be your best yet. We love you!

what's new in G-town--minibreak!

We just got back from our weekend at Lopez Island (map). Paul Allen's "compound" is just to the south and visible from the cabin. Here's the view from the back of the cabin. We had lovely sunny days.

Garrison rode on a ferry for the first time. On the way back we went up on the deck. He wasn't incredibly impressed. He ate a lot. He had some hard boiled egg yolk, some chilli (that's how we spell it in Springfield.)

And some hummus out by the fire. He's wearing a new hat I made him, because it turns out wool is not good for his skin (he's sensitive).

We had a lovely weekend. And, Garrison slept in Adonis & Rali's cabin on Valentine's day (they asked!)

what's new in G-town--A TOOTH!

As of 5:15 PM tonight G has his first tooth. It's just broken through and sharp, of course. We struggled and struggled to get a picture of it, but G was not cooperative. He does not like having his mouth messed with. In some ways he's harder to do things for than miles. Miles is always cooperative, G, not so much when it comes to using the snot sucker or wiping his nose. Anyway the tooth development is very exciting, but it also means Amos wins the bet on when his first tooth would come in. He said February, I thought much earlier. I'll have to win the next weight guess, and I'll keep trying for a picture of g's new chomper.

bon voyage!

We just wanted to wish Grandmother, Granddaddy, Aunt Jenn, Uncle Vance, Lu & Adrian bon voyage. Hope you guys have a lovely trip and take lots of pictures to share with us when you get back.

And this picture was just too funny not to share. Yesterday G was upset, feeling sick, and had just woken up from a nap. He was crying. I read once that you should take pictures of your kids when they're doing things like crying or being angry. As parents we take so many smiley pictures of them, that it's good to have some in other states too, because those are a part of their lives as well. Anyway, when G's really upset he'll stick his bottom lip out sooooo far. It is the cutest thing I've ever seen, so I want to get a picture of him doing it. He did it once last night, and I quickly picked up the camera so that I could catch it, but, alas, he did not do it again. I got picture instead (the socks are on the hands from his nap--we use them so he doesn't scratch himself.) It's funny. Shortly after this picture was taken he started workin' in for the camera (he's a bit of a ham). He's feeling much better today.

oh no! G has a cold!

Poor little guy has his first illness--a cold. He's being pretty tough, but he's a little more sensitive. We've used the snot sucker, have a humidifier going and have used a little saline up the nose. I feel so bad for him. Watching a sick kid is way harder than I thought it would be, it's just heart-breaking that there is so little you can do for them (no cold medicine until at least 2). I got this picture sans runny nose after he got up from a nap. If you have any good cold tips, post 'em!

ETA: Miles did the cutest thing today. Garrison was crying after we put him down for a nap, and Miles, who believes it is his job to make everyone who cries happier, came in and sat by G's crib. Garrison looked at miles and calmed down, then miles got on our bed (right next to the crib) and stayed in the room until he was convinced G was soothed.

Lu & G

On Sunday Amos and I packed up the car, buckled G into his car seat and headed down to Portland. It was a nice day for a drive. G played with some toys and took a nap and then we were there. It was the first time I got to see G interact with another kid (He had gone to see Lu at about 4.5 months, but I stayed home with MD). I think it was a revelation to see someone who is not a giant towering grown-up (not like A and I are really towering, but...). G really thought Lu was super cool. He kept trying to touch her. Lucy was great with G. She helped him try out her bouncer thing,

and gave him all the xmas wrapping paper from her presents to play with (G loves paper).

G thought Uncle Vance was hilarious and really enjoyed grabbing his beard.

Lucy was even a good sport when Aunt Jenn (who has a fabulous new hair cut) held her cousin.
